This was the first organ to be erected in
our new workshop, early in 1997.It was
placed behind the altar in the chancel of the old church. In 2003 the
church was demolished, and the organ was placed in store while a new
church was built on the same site. The organ was installed in the late
summer on 2005; church and organ were dedicated in December.
The organ stands in a transept. It required
no alteration for the new positioning, apart from adjustments to the
voicing. It is about 18ft wide, 12ft deep at floor level, and nearly
28ft high; the Great and Swell Organs are at the main level, the Solo
at the upper level towards the apex, and the Pedal on either side. The
detached console is placed with the choir seats in front of the organ.
The casework is of mahogany, and the front pipes are of 50% tin
(spotted metal), as are all the principal and reed stops in the organ.
The organ is planned for the accompaniment of the Anglican liturgy, and as a versatile instrument for solo performance, with a bias towards the romantic repertoire: hence the expressive Solo Organ on the third manual, with its strings, reeds and commanding English Tuba (on 12" wind pressure), alongside wide-scaled flutes. All the Pedal stops are independent, apart from the Sub Bass rank. The organ has traditional reservoirs, electro-pneumatic action, and slider chests for all departments.
A recording of the organ was made by David Hill when the organ was dedicated, and is available on the Pro Organo Label.
