COVENTRY CATHEDRAL

The organ was built for the new Cathedral by Harrison & Harrison in 1962. The specification evolved over several years from the advice of a
number of musicians, with Dr Sidney Campbell, Organist of St George's Chapel Windsor Castle, as the ultimate consultant.

The layout of the front pipes was developed by the organ builders from a sketch by the cathedral architect, Sir Basil Spence. The departments are
placed as follows (front pipes in brackets):

Left side

Right side

Solo Organ with orchestral Trumpets

Pedal heavy reeds and Great reeds
      (Pedal Open Metal)

      (Great Double Diapason)
Swell Organ

Great flue-work
      (Pedal Dulciana)

      (Open Diapason I and II)
Choir flutes and Cremona

Choir Daipason chorus
      (Claribel Flute and Harmonic Flute)

       (Diapason)
Pedal Flutes

Remainder of Pedal Organ
      (Pedal Spitzflute and Choir Dulciana)

      (Principal and Twelfth)

The console is placed with the choir stalls

In 1988 the organ was overhauled and the piston system enhanced.
